Mimicking the World

Today my sister shared a funny song that a Christian comedian did. It is a song about the things that a husband shouldn't say to his wife. The unfortunate thing was that the tune was actually a pop song that I had heard many times during my rides on the bus to and from school. I thought that this song was so funny that I shared it with about three people throughout the day. It is enlightening that after hearing that version of the song 4 times today I have the original song stuck in my head after not hearing it in about 4 years. In fact earlier today I recognized the tune but I could not remember what the original song was.

I think there are two things that can be drawn from this experience. The first is that when it comes to Christian humor I personally let my guard down a lot. I think "oh they are Christian, they aren't going to say or do anything compromising." Why I think this I have no clue. I think that many times Christian comedians actually say and do a lot of things that instead of glorify God just mimic the world with Christian language. Even though the song that I was listening to was funny in the end it only reminded me of the song that I use to listen to on the radio. It did not enrich my day at all.

The second lesson is that the world is the world no matter how we dress it. Many times we let down our guard when something is labeled Christian but we need to be on our toes at all times. Satan has many counterfeits. Some of them are obvious but many are subtle and unless we are paying attention we can easily be fooled just like I was today. Unless it is mimicking Christ it is not worth partaking of.

I love your thoughts Erin :) I need to be more mindful of things that are masquerading themselves as Christian.
