Recently my Uncle Mike was admitted to the hospital for a perforated ulcer. Yesterday he was discharged from the hospital. Since everyone else was not able to pick my uncle up the job fell to me. I picked up my Uncle Tom and away we went to Rochester, about an hour and a half drive.
My Uncle Tom and I have very different views of the world so I was thinking it was going to be an interesting ride. We talked about my sister, my cousins, and our current job situations. My uncle trimms hooves for a living and I guess business is not going very well. Then the conversation took an interesting twist. My uncle told me that he gave up drinking and going to bars. It has been since March that he has gone into a bar, other than bar and grills for food, and from my understanding he hasn't had a drink since then either. I am so proud of my uncle!
From there the conversation turned to God. My uncle has been going to church with my grandparents and he really enjoys going. In the midst of that conversation I heard something that made me really sad. He was told by a person that the reason that he was struggling right now was because God wouldn't help him because he had done so many bad things. That morning I had read the chapter in "A Call to Stand Apart" by Ellen White about the Prodigal Son. She illustrates the character of God so beautifully. I was able to share with my uncle about the love of God and that He is always seeking after us. Thankfully my uncle believes that God isn't ignoring him because of his past mistakes. I am excited to see how God leads my uncle in the days to come.
